Charity shop celebrates profitable year

Two major milestones have been achieved in 2013 by the DEBRA team, which is led by manager Sandra Terry and her deputy Cath Bull.

Ilkeston’s branch of DEBRA provides ongoing support ‘for people whose skin doesn’t work’ and are sufferers of an incurable hereditary condition known as EB, and has raised an astonishing £100,000 during the past year. Just for good measure the charity shop, which is situated in the Albion shopping centre off Bath Street in the town, has achieved the organisation’s accolade as the second best DEBRA shop in the country for its Gift Aid initiative which involves more than 100 other DEBRA shops.

“Our turnover is phenomenal and it is largely thanks to generous local people who have not only donated goods but also the hundreds of customers who regularly buy what are quality goods. said Mrs.Terry.

“We value the contributions made by our small but dedicated team of volunteers who have been a godsend. Their time and talents are greatly appreciated.”

“EB is a very painful condition which makes the skin blister and shear. Currently there is no cure for EB but DEBRA’s fundraising shops help to provide money which helps to provide vital research into the condition and its cause.”
